The purpose of this page is to give you the chance to get to know me a little bit better.
I am 30 years old and have been a keen photographer for several years. Photography started out as a hobby and I never intended it to become a career, but then friends began asking me to photograph their weddings. At first I declined as all photographers know that weddings are one of the most stressful events to be involved in, but one friend in particular was persistent and in the end I conceded.
That was in 2003 and I have never looked back. Whilst I admit that on my first wedding I was probably more nervous than the bride, I soon began to enjoy being such an integral part of the day, and felt honoured to be allowed to witness many intimate moments that guests all so often miss. I see my job as being to capture moments that represent all elements of the wedding day, as there are many elements that not everyone is privileged enough to see.
I'm sure that I now enjoy the weddings as much as the happy couple, I always look forward to my next job and am still excited by new venues and unusual ceremonies. I like to get to know the couples that I photograph and I find that this benefits both parties. The couples are much more relaxed on the day because they already know me quite well by that point, and I benefit because the photographs that I take are so much more natural.
I must confess that one of the reasons I enjoy photography so much is because I am such a terrible subject - I am much more comfortable behind a camera rather than in front of one! This means that I am understanding with my clients who feel uncomfortable having their photograph taken and for this reason I am happy to come out to their home a few weeks before the wedding to take some "practice" shots which will give them a better idea of how it will be on their big day.
Now I love to photograph weddings and they have become one of the busiest areas of my business. I love the romance of the day and the social atmosphere, I'm very lucky to be able to work in such varied environments with so many different people. The great thing about weddings is that they are the beginning of the couple's life together and the start of a whole new chapter. I often get to see how their life unfolds when I get called back on anniversaries or to photograph their growing family. It's great to get a call from a former bride to tell me that's she's pregnant, doing Maternity portraiture is incredibly rewarding and is a fantastic record of the family growing and developing, as well as capturing the excitement of the couple prior to the birth of their children.
Most of my Portrait work is studio based, but weather permitting I also love to do environmental work where the subjects can be photographed in their garden or local park. I also offer a package for New Parents where I come to their home to photograph the new born. Again this is a great privilege.
Even though photography has become a career for me it is still a hobby; you'll often find me out in the countryside photographing everything from squirrels to seascapes. I still get a great deal of pleasure taking photos for fun and have many photographic ambitions that I'm yet to achieve.
In addition to photography I also love to be outdoors, I enjoy water skiing, horse riding and walking. I also love to relax in my garden during summer months and enjoy nothing more than relaxing in the sun with a good book or whipping up a BBQ for friends.
Anyway, that's enough about me for now. I just wanted to give you an insight into who I am as a person. I think it's very important in my line of work for everyone to feel comfortable in each others company, so now you know a little more about me. Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to meet you too, so don't be shy, if you have any questions or queries please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Take care,
Vicki
