The purpose of this page is to give you the chance to get to know me a little bit better.
I am in my early 40’s and have been a keen photographer for several years before it became my full time job. Photography started out as a hobby and I never intended it to become a career, but then friends began asking me to photograph their weddings. At first I declined, as all photographers know that weddings are one of the most stressful events to be involved in, but one friend in particular was persistent and in the end I conceded.
As my wedding business grew so did the portrait side of things because my wedding customers just kept having more babies! Soon I realised that I couldn’t keep up with both areas of my business and in 2009 decided to specialise in photographing children, especially babies in their first year and New Borns.
I must confess that one of the reasons I enjoy photography so much is because I am such a terrible subject - I am much more comfortable behind a camera rather than in front of one!
But since having two beautiful children of my own I now realise just how important it is to capture them growing as it happens all too fast! I also make sure that I attend one photo shoot each year too as I want my boys to look back at photos with all of us together. I hate my photo taking, there's always a reason not to (feeling too fat usually!), but I don't want to be missing in photos in years to come, or when perhaps I'm not even here anymore. Be brave and go for it - after all we aren't just taking photos for you.
The family portrait area of my business has grown so much and gives me such great pleasure – you might start out having a grumpy day but all you need is for a ten week old baby to give you a big gummy grin and you can’t help but smile for the rest of the day. And lets face it , you can’t frown for long when you’re watching a baby on his / her first birthday smash a cake so much that we all end up wearing a bit! ☺
It's great to get a call from a former bride to tell me that's she's pregnant, doing Maternity portraiture is incredibly rewarding and is a fantastic record of the family growing and developing, as well as capturing the excitement of the couple prior to the birth of their children.
Most of my Portrait work is studio based, but weather permitting I also love to do environmental work where the subjects can be photographed in their garden or local park.
Even though photography has become a career for me it is still a hobby; you'll often find me out in the countryside photographing everything from squirrels to seascapes - no subject gives me greater pleasure (and sometimes frustrations lol) than my own children. I still get a great deal of pleasure taking photos for fun and have many photographic ambitions that I'm yet to achieve.
In addition to photography I also love to be outdoors, I enjoy horse riding and walking. I also love to relax in my garden during summer months and enjoy nothing more than relaxing in the sun with a good book, whipping up a BBQ for friends or getting the paddling pool out for some family fun.
Anyway, that's enough about me for now. I just wanted to give you an insight into who I am as a person. I think it's very important in my line of work for everyone to feel comfortable in each others company, so now you know a little more about me. Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to meet you too, so don't be shy, if you have any questions or queries please don't hesitate to get in touch.
